This text was sent during Rosh Hashana, and "barakat" could be a transliteration for the Hebrew word for "blessings," so I'm willing to say this is a "happy new year" text. Only what's this "eid mubarak"? Any fluent Hebrew speakers with a penchant for transliteration out there?

Eid mubarak is actually Arabic. Eid is a major Muslim holiday celebrating the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Eid mubarak means "blessed Eid". It's basically the Muslim equivalant of merry Christmas.

You were right about the translation of barakat meaning blessed. It's a Hebrew/Arabic cognate.
