Sorry, dear Leila Text afficianados, for the lack of updates over the past week. I have been very preoccupied because I just SOLD MY FIRST NOVEL. It's called Wayward Girls and it will be published by Simon & Schuster in fall of 2010. My novel has almost nothing to do with text messaging, except that in one scene one of the characters sends a text. Still. I thought you might want to know, anyway.
Other than that update, life remains the same, and texts of congratulations intended for me come interspersed with texts asking other Leilas where they left their bio textbooks, or whose turn it is to pick up the kids from soccer. So let's get down to business.
Are you with your dad this weekend coming up?
from a 508 phone number, Sunday, September 6, 11:26 AM
I just hope this isn't sent by Leila's mother. I like for parents, at the very least, to know their own joint custody schedule.

That's awesome! I love books. More than text messages. Congratulations!
Wow way to go!
I've been lurking via feed reader for a long time, enjoying the texts and especially your commentary. Finally delurking to say congratulations! I look forward to reading it!
Thanks, everyone! I'll let you know once it's out. (Presumably a year from now, so... stick around.)
Though, Kala-- loving books more than text messages? Contentious position!
Congratulations on the book deal!
congrats again on the novel Leila!
& also, I wanted to let you know that I thought of you recently, because I've received not one, but TWO texts to my phone from an unrecognized number (based somewhere in Alabama). both have come through between midnight & 1am; the first said "U full of shit." & the second, "U done fuckn?"
I haven't texted back to explain that they have the wrong number, because I kind of want them to keep coming. I mean, what could the third one possibly say at this point?
Thanks, Courtney! You are so sweet. And those are some sweet-ass texts you received, too. "You done fuckn?" Um, maybe? None of your business? Please keep me updated if this Alabamian character has anything more to say for himself.
Wow - fall 2010 is soon (relatively speaking)! Usually they make you wait years!
Congrats! I look forward to it :)
